The
"No Labels" group threatens Biden's presidential prospects.
An American
political group called "No Labels" has announced plans to field a
presidential candidate, a move that Democrats fear could divide their electoral
base and diminish President Joe Biden's chances.
The centrist organization "No Labels," which is not an
official political party and describes itself as a "national movement for
Americans of sound logic," announced that it will begin the process of
selecting its candidate next week.
The organization did not mention any potential candidates by name,
and several American media outlets reported that many politicians associated
with it have ruled out running, casting doubt on the challenge it may pose.
However, Democrats have expressed concerns, albeit unofficially,
about the possibility of "No Labels" attracting undecided voters and
drawing them away from Biden in the upcoming November elections.
Following an online meeting with members on Friday, group president
Mike Rollins said, "Even though we met virtually, their feelings and
desires to bring together this divided nation were clear."
A press release quoted Rollins as saying that nearly 800 delegates
"almost unanimously" supported presenting a presidential candidate,
adding, "It was clear that these citizens believed that 'No Labels' should
provide Americans with an additional option they desire."
Ryan Clancy, the group's chief strategist, wrote on the X platform
on Friday, "No Labels has not yet chosen a candidate, and any names
circulating are being put forward by others. We will announce the official
selection process on Thursday, March 14, and provide further details
thereafter."
It is worth noting that the "No Labels" group was founded
in 2009 by Democratic fundraising activist Nancy Jacobson, who is currently the
organization's CEO, bearing the slogan "No left. No right. Forward."
The group presents itself on its website as a solution for many
dissatisfied voters who are not satisfied with the choice between Joe Biden (81
years old) and former Republican President Donald Trump (77 years old).
