Gaza Government: Death of Child and Elderly Due to Hunger and Thirst, with Dozens Suspected to Quietly Pass Away from Famine
The Ministry of
Health in the Gaza Strip announced today, Wednesday, that the death toll from
hunger and thirst has risen to 20 people.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf
al-Qidra, said today that a 15-year-old child died at Al-Shifa Medical Complex
as a result of malnutrition and dehydration.
Similarly, an elderly man aged 72 died at Kamal Adwan Hospital in
northern Gaza due to malnutrition and dehydration.
He confirmed that the toll of malnutrition and dehydration victims
has risen to 20 martyrs in the Gaza Strip.
He explained that the announced toll of deaths from malnutrition
and dehydration reflects only those who reached hospitals, indicating that
dozens are likely to quietly pass away from famine without reaching hospitals.
With the ongoing war waged by the Israeli army on the Gaza Strip
for more than 4 months, the depletion of food and potable water supplies, the
destruction of health infrastructure, and Israel's prevention of humanitarian
aid access, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA)
warned of famine and the spread of diseases and epidemics in the Strip.
